Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe today commissioned the Katse–Nguuku Sumpwell Water Supply Project, implemented by the Kitui County Climate Change Unit through the Financing Locally Led Climate Change Action (FLoCCA) Programme under the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry in the 2024/25 Financial Year at a cost of 19.6 million.
The solar-powered project serves the community through two newly constructed water kiosks at Nguuku Primary School and Nguuku Secondary School and five additional water connections.
The project comprises a sumpwell with a discharge capacity of 12,000 litres per hour, a submersible pump coupled with a 7.5kW three-phase motor, intake compound structures with lighting, a two-door VIP latrine, a 3.5km rising main pipeline, a 50,000-litre masonry water tank, and a 2.9km distribution pipeline among other components supplying water to the two schools and surrounding community
Area MCA Titus Kasinga commended Governor Malombe’s administration for its all-round development initiatives in the area, and the continued investment in water infrastructure and other key sectors that have improved the livelihoods of residents.
