Governor Charity Ngilu has again reiterated her readiness to work together with the second assembly where her party lacks a majority with 30 out of the 54 members of the assembly coming from the rival Wiper party with a paltry 13 from her NARC party.
She however called for a consultative approach to development between her administration and the county’s legislature saying dialogue was key to the development of the county.
She equally sought the support of the second assembly in realizing her agenda for Kitui County saying they all shared a common agenda of improving the livelihoods of Kitui residents.
In her maiden address to the newly elected county assembly, Ngilu called her administration a ‘non-partisan government’ saying her engagement with members of the county assembly will go beyond party lines and instead be guided by the sole agenda of improving the lives of residents.
“I will go out of the way to work with you all irrespective of the party that sponsored you to assembly” she told a full house
All together, the governor called the assembly the ‘most important institution’ of any county saying the constitution had bestowed a huge responsibility on county assemblies for the checking of county executives and passing of pro-people legislation for development.
She said she will ensure the assembly had an adequate budget for the carrying out of its legislative roles. She further promised to consider budgetary allocations for other essential operations among them training and travel.
